Q: What is ZawaribBeirut.com?
A: ZawaribBeirut.com is an on-line atlas, with stylized visual maps covering 100 Km2 of Greater Beirut area from Dahyeh to Dbayeh, and a search engine which includes thousands of names of streets and landmarks.

Q: What is the definition of a Street?
A: All Streets, Roads, Avenues, Boulevards & Highways. Also Squares and Public Gardens are defined as 'Streets' in the search.

Q: What is the definition of a Landmark?
A: All structures that are considered reference points in Beirut's topography are defined as landmarks. These include all national (government departments, embassies, etc.), educational (schools, universities, institutes, etc.), religious (mosques, churches, monasteries), and medical institutions (pharmacies, hospitals, clinics), and large commercial establishments that are considered important and popular reference points in Beirut (such as the SNA Building, Chevrolet Building, etc.)

Q: What Landmarks are listed?
A: All landmarks as defined above are searchable and can be located on the map. Other symbols such as,,and are included in the map, but are not searchable. These are displayed in the map to help you for location purposes.

Q: Why are not all Commercial Establishments listed?
A: Only large Commercial Establishments which are viewed as geographical references are included.

Q: Which Municipalities are included in Zawarib Beirut?
A: Greater Beirut here is defined as Beirut City, plus 33 Municipalities that are within the suburbs of Beirut. These are: Amaret Chalhoub, Antelias, Baabda, Beirut, Beknaya, Biakout, Bouchrieh, Bourj Brajneh, Bourj Hammoud, Chiah, Deir Mar Roukoz, Dekwaneh, Deychounieh, Fanar, Furn Al Chebbak, Ghobeiry, Haddath, Haret Hreik, Hazmieh, Jal Al Deeb, Jdeideh, Laylakeh, Loueizeh, Majzoub, Mansourieh, Mezher, Mkalles, Mreijeh, Mtayleb, Naccache, Rabieh, Sin El Fil, Tahwitat Al Ghadir, Zalka.

Q: How is Beirut City divided?
A: Beirut City is divided into 12 districts, each of which is made up of a number of sectors. Show the map

Q: What street names are used?
A: Except for Beirut City, there are very few officially recognised names within Greater Beirut, and the names used in Zawarib Beirut are the accepted popular names, collected through interviews with local municipalities, traffic police, residents and from local custom. In cases where there is more than one agreed name to a street or landmark, both versions have been used in ZawaribBeirut.com.

Q: Why are some streets without a name?
A: Where neither official nor accepted name exists, the road remains without a name in the atlas.

Q: What are the districts or sectors that appear after street and landmark names in the search results?
A: Streets and landmarks outside of Beirut City are followed by the name of the municipality in which they are found, e.g. Midan Av. Dekwaneh.
Street names within Beirut City are followed by the name of the district in which they pass; e.g.Nour St. Moussaitbeh.
Landmark names within Beirut City are followed by the name of the district and sector in which they are found; e.g. City Ph. Hamra, Ras Beirut.

Q: How do I search for a street or landmark in a particular area?
A: Go to "advanced search" options, and choose the required area from the drop-down menu provided. You can also choose to search for a landmark by type, such as 'schools' or 'stores.'

Q: What spelling convention should I use for Arabic names?
A: ZawaribBeirut.com has a unique in-built translator, that can understand many spelling variations. Don't worry, just type it in; Ahmad, Ahmed, Ahmet, will all be understood!
